À propos

In the honors biology course, students gain a solid foundation of life. In the course, students go from the microscopic components of life through the whole interacting ecosystems of the world. Students begin by studying organic molecules which interact to form basic compounds needed for life. After this, students understand cell structure, followed by how organisms produce energy through processes such as photosynthesis and cellular respiration. Next, the course takes a look at genetics. Students understand processes such as mitosis and meiosis, as well as the structure of DNA, transcription, replication and more. Students also understand the inheritance of traits and the influence of epigenetics on gene expression. After this, students progress to explore the processes of natural selection and evolution, as well as the classifications of organisms. Finally, students look at the anatomy of organisms, specifically with a focus on humans, understanding basic system such as the respiratory system, cardiovascular system, hematologic system, immune system, and more, learning basic components of each, such as the structure of the nephron, neuronal signalling and the basics of neurotransmitters and synaptic vesicles and more.
